A joint delegation of Congress and the CPI-M on Thursday met with Kiran Gitte, Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura and urged him for ensuring free and fair elections.
Later speaking to reporters about the details of the meeting with the Tripura CEO, Congress leader and candidate from the Agartala constituency, Sudip Roy Barman said, “To ensure that voters can exercise their franchise in a fearless manner, we have appealed the Election Commission. After losing people’s support the ruling front has decimated.”
He added, “The CEO has assured us that if the mechanism of fear is inflicted than helpline numbers are active in constituency. If voters are threatened regarding casting of votes, than there itself the EC has asked to inform about the matter, so that the police can swing into action immediately and ensure the voting rights of every individual.”
The Congress leader while allaying fears of the voters said,”We want to convey the message that please help the administration to help You. The days of fear have ended, and everyone is waiting for a new dawn.”
Meantime, former MP and CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said that the party in power has totally lost its vote base and even during the campaign of the PM the ground was not full.
He further added that the union Home Minister Amit Shah after his public rally is staying in the state and which is very unlikely for a Minister of his stature.
Chowdhury also alleged that the Home Minister of hatching conspiracy to win the polls and that there are reports that he had meetings with high officials and to find out the truth that the CEO should check the CCTV footage of the Sonartori guest house.
The CPIM leader also alleged that huge quantity of black money has been kept in the Polo Towers hotel where all senior BJP leaders are staying and this money is most likely to be used for influencing the election and so the CEO should take steps against this.
