Agartala: Feb 04: The upcoming assembly elections will be held on February 16. One hundred percent of voters in the state have photo voter ID cards. If a voter cannot go to the polling station and show his identity card on the day of polling, then the Election Commission has prescribed twelve identity documents including Aadhaar card, Monrega job card, post office or bank passbook photograph, health insurance smart card provided by labor department, PAN card, Indian passport, etc.
If the identity cards can be shown to the voters at the polling stations, then they will have the democratic right, i.e. the opportunity to vote. State Election Commission Chief Officer Kiran Gitye said this in a press conference organized at the conference hall of West District Governor’s office on Saturday evening. He said that in view of the upcoming elections, the National Election Commission held a meeting with the District Governor and District Superintendents of Police through video conference on Friday. He informed them about the necessary information and gave them several instructions. Special observers will start arriving in the state from Sunday. The observers will come to the state and look into the electoral system. 25 General Observers are stationed in the State.

The meeting will discuss sealing the internal borders of the three states. The state has adequate security forces. They are being properly employed at every place. A total of 830 programs were organized in the state on one day on Friday, including all political small and big. The Election Commission was keeping an eye on every programme. TSR and Central Security and Police were deployed.

Among them, 27 people were arrested. This number has decreased from last time. Anticipatory action has been taken against the tainted criminals by identifying them. Out of total 259 candidates, 30 are female candidates. It is 12 percent of total candidates. Currently the total number of voters in the state is 28 lakh 14 thousand. 1100 voters have increased in this case. 550 of them belong to the Bru community those who could not name in the list earlier. Ballot paper printing is going on at the government printing house. These ballots are used in EVMs, postal ballots and polling booths. One and a half lakh ballot papers have been printed. It has already been distributed among all the R&Os. Seven ex-TCS-officers were appointed to check these ballots. Their work is done. 29 crore worth of goods have been seized. The chief election officer said that he has 3.5 million taka in cash.
