Agartala: Jan 20: The National Election Commission was shaken by the heated situation that arose in the clash between the Congress and the BJP in Jirania within 15 minutes of announcing the election at 2.30 pm on January 18. Himadri Das, police officer of Jirania sub-division, has been temporarily suspended. On the other hand, Jirania Police Station OC Nadu Gopal Deb and Ranibazar Police Station OC Ashish Sarkar have been removed from duty.
The National Election Commission on Thursday received a report from the state chief secretary JK Sinha and director general of police Amitabh Ranjan at 3 pm on Friday after receiving a detailed complaint about the incident from the Congress. The report said that on that day the procession was organized by the Congress without taking any permission from the district administration. But despite receiving the report, the Election Commission issued a stern warning to the state’s chief secretary and director general of police. The party leadership has given strict instructions to the chief secretary and the director general of police to ensure proper management if any party leadership requires any kind of security or demands security for any programme. And State Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte is in charge to see if these two officers are performing their duties properly.
Besides, the director general and chief secretary of the state police have been again instructed to assume a neutral role. It has also been said that strict action should be taken immediately if any election officer tries to favor any political party. On the other hand, the State Election Commission officials have been notified to make special arrangements for the election program through the facility app. The guidelines have been made clear that the political party which first seeks permission for the program should be given permission.
