Agartala: Jan 11: CPM is ready to make maximum sacrifices to defeat BJP in Tripura. Despite policy differences with the Congress, the CPM state committee meeting has taken a final decision on the question of alliance for the upcoming assembly elections. In this case, CPM will share seats with all the anti-BJP political parties including Congress, Tipra Matha. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury made this clear in a press conference today.
According to him, political consensus based on uniform program and manifesto is wrong. CPM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury’s candid admission, the question of alliance against BJP has been decided early. Necessary action will be taken depending on actual situation. Efforts will be made to make alliances in an honorable manner.
On this day, Sitaram Yechury said that the 23rd assembly election is very important for Tripura as well as the whole country. Defeat of BJP is necessary to restore democracy and rule of law. Hence, the CPM’s state committee meeting in Tripura has set BJP as the main target to defeat. There was a detailed discussion about that. He claimed that it has been decided to unite all non-communal parties in Tripura. CPM has taken that decision in the interest of the people of Tripura. In that, the State Committee will take necessary steps to decide the Alliance’s strategy.
Incidentally, CPM and Congress have formed an alliance in West Bengal as well. However, the CPM Central Committee itself criticized the alliance. Sitaram Yechury’s clear statement on this issue, CPM central committee did not criticize seat sharing in West Bengal. But, they shared seats in West Bengal based on political compromise. That was a wrong decision. According to him, sharing of seats based on political compromise by declaring a common program and manifesto is wrong. But, Seat sharing is right to prevent anti-BJP vote-sharing. CPM will walk on that path in Tripura.
On this day, he reminded, CPM’s 23rd Party Congress unanimously decided to isolate and defeat BJP from the people. In this case, the final decision was made by increasing the strength of the party alone, uniting the left and democratic forces and adopting appropriate electoral strategies. According to him, it is very important to walk that path to consolidate anti-BJP votes because communal forces have to be united in a tough fight.
The CPM now sees something unconstitutional in its demand for Greater Tipraland as well. Rather, Tipra considers their demand to be constitutional. According to Sitaram, the Tipra Matha sought a constitutional solution to the question of Greater Tipraland. Similarly, the CPM had called for constitutional amendment to give more power to the ADC. The Bill in this regard has been pending in Parliament for a long time.
However, the CPM will not stop at just compromising on the demand of Greater Tipraland to defeat the BJP. They are also ready to join hands with the Congress, which is responsible for the Emergency. Sitaram’s candid words, CPM is giving defeat to BJP. The Central Committee has given the green signal to unite all non-communal forces. However, all ABJP political parties will announce unity in one go.
According to CPM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, the final decision has been taken on seat raffling with ABJP party. Necessary action will be taken depending on actual situation. However, seat sharing efforts will continue with respect.
