Agartala: Jan 04: It is now just a matter of time before passengers travel through the much awaited Maitri Setu over the Feni River. Once Delhi and Dhaka give the green signal, the movement of passengers between the two countries will start. To that end, today the officials of Land Port Authority of the two countries held a meeting regarding the inspection of Maitri Setu and the entire infrastructure.
Recently in the Rajya Sabha, MP Biplab Kumar Deb drew the attention of the central government to launch the Maitri Setu. It seems that the result is going to be noticed in a few days. Because high-level officials of the two countries came to inspect the friendship bridge built on the Feni River in Sabroom today.
On this day, a meeting was held between the high-level delegations of India and Bangladesh to launch the friendship bridge built on the Feni River. Land Port Authority Chairman Aditya Mishra, Project Director Gitesh Deep Singh, LPAI Assistant Engineer Kabir Singh, LPAI Manager Agartala Debashish Nandy, Chief Commissioner of Customs Yogandar Garg, Sabrum MLA Shankar Roy, BSF 96 Battalion Commandant Lala Krishna Kumar Lal were present in the meeting including several high level officials.
A meeting was held between the officials of the two countries at Maitri Setu, built on the Feni River in Sabrum at around two o’clock that day. At the end of the meeting, the delegation of high-level officials of the two countries jointly went to the border of Bangladesh at three o’clock in the afternoon and examined the issues that have been taken at the check post for the passage of passengers from Bangladesh. Aditya Mishra, chairman of the Land Port Authority of India, told reporters that the passenger service will be started through the friendship bridge built on the Feni River very soon through the discussions between the governments of the two countries. In the future, when the necessary infrastructure for various types of goods is ready, they will be introduced in stages. In this regard, Sabroom MLA Shankar Roy said that the two countries are ready for passenger travel through the friendship bridge. The land customs of the two countries have been prepared. Now people of both countries can travel through that bridge if Delhi and Dhaka give green signal.
On the other hand, High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh Rajeev Ranjan, Additional Director of Land Port MD Raju Ahmed, Hafizullah Rahman and other high-ranking officials from Bangladesh Border Guard Force including Nizam Ullah Rahman were present on behalf of Bangladesh.
