Agartala: Dec 27: After West Bengal, Congress has joined hands with the Left in Tripura too. A joint platform of the Left Front and the Congress appealed to the peaceful democratic citizens to come forward, alleging that an anarchic situation has prevailed in Tripura. Today CPM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, CPI State Secretary Judhishthir Das, RSP State Secretary Deepak Deb, Forward Block Chairman Paresh Sarkar, CPI(ML) State Secretary Partha Karmakar and Pradesh Congress President Birjit Sinha jointly signed the statement. The statement of the Left Front and the Congress has created an intense stir in the political circles.
It is said in the statement that since the formation of the BJP-led coalition government, an unimaginable anarchic situation is going on in Tripura. Democracy has been hijacked. Civil liberties are under attack. The independence of the media has been undermined. Their independent activities are being stifled by suppressing the voice of the opposition parties. A de facto one-party dictatorship has been imposed.
In a statement, the Joint Forum claimed that citizens were deprived of their right to vote freely. The election has been turned into a farce. Conscious inaction on the part of the administration and particularly the police is aiding the ruling party in its anti-constitutional undemocratic activities. The group alleged that miscreants favored by the ruling party were being encouraged. Murder, terror, looting, extortion and destruction of the very sources of people’s livelihood and family are being carried out in a fascist style. The platform claims that people are being thrown out of their native villages and states in various places. Crimes against mothers and sisters have taken a gruesome form.
According to Manch, the police are not touching the hair of the real criminals because they are fans and supporters of the ruling party. A mountain of false cases against the victims continues. The rule of the jungle has taken the place of law. In fact, the constitution of the country in Tripura is dead today.
It is Manch’s firm belief that this situation cannot be accepted by the peaceful democratic people of Tripura. Therefore, the joint platform sincerely calls upon all people to rise above party-religion-caste-community to spontaneously and unitedly protest against the establishment of this reign of darkness and come forward to end it.
On this day, the joint platform of Left-Congress drew the attention of the general administration and especially the police-administration and asked them to take an effective role in strictly restoring the rule of law with a neutral stance. Also, in the face of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Election Commission has been requested to immediately take effective and effective measures to ensure the conduct of elections in a healthy democratic manner and the right of voters to vote freely.
While speaking to TIPRA Motha Supremo Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman told “those who sit in power must and should realise that posts and positions are temporary. Dissent is Essential in democracy and intolerance is a sign of insecurity. With elections just a few weeks to go the administration and officers must realise that parties will come and go but their responsibilities is to the rule of law and not political parties . The law has to stop protecting criminals who hide behind the flag of any political party” !
