Agartala: Dec 09: The state’s first ever mobile veterinary unit project is about to be launched to address all types of animal protection and animal disease transmission problems in the state. In the current financial year, the central government has provided an initial grant of Rs. 28 million to the state for this project. Besides, the central government will bear 90 percent of the annual cost required for operating 13 ambulances. The remaining ten percent will be taken by the state government.
Under this project, a total of 13 animal protection ambulances will travel to different districts of the state. Each ambulance will have a veterinarian, a veterinary assistant and a driver on duty day and night. BS Mishra, Principal Secretary of Animal Resource Development Department, said this at a press conference organized in Secreatriate on Friday. These vehicles will be controlled by a central call center. As soon as the farmers call a specific toll free number, the call will go to the mobile doctor on duty in the area and the doctor will immediately reach the farmer’s home and start treating the sick animals.
The main objective of launching this project is to bring all types of modern animal treatment systems to the doorsteps of farmers. 18 lakh 72 thousand rupees have been allocated annually for the ambulance. Five veterinary ambulances will reach the state in the first phase by December 15. In the second phase, the ambulance will reach the state on December 30, he said. It has been decided to engage a total of 144 additional self-employed itinerant artificial insemination workers through three months training in order to bring the benefits of artificial insemination to the home of the farmer friends. Already 94 persons have been trained and 47 persons have been employed. The training of the remaining 50 will begin soon.
Last November 2 notifications have been published to fill 51 vacant posts of Veterinary Officer. He said that they will be appointed through TPSC.
