Agartala: Dec 02: In the name of Eklavya school construction big tea garden is destroying where a large number of tea workers are in great despair. One such incident happened in Sabroom subdivision in Ludhua tea garden. While collecting news in the tea garden area this morning, it was learned from the workers that Sabroom MLA Shankar Roy had cut down around eighty four (84) thousand tea plants in the tea garden in 2019 to build Eklavya school in the tea garden and gave the school work to a private company named AB Construction (Ashutosh Bandyopadhyay). to build the school.
The tea garden workers complained that 15,000 to 16,000 tea plants were cut down again last night without any notice to the concerned garden authority by AB Construction, a private contractor company. They have destroyed the garden widely in the dark last night. On seeing that, the tea garden workers were speechless and stopped the construction work of the school in the tea garden area. After the BJP-IPFT coalition government came to power in 2018 assembly elections, a representative group of the garden workers met Sabroom MLA Shankar Roy and said that during the previous Left government, the garden had left a loan of 3 crore rupees to the bank. Now the garden authority can not find how to pay this debt. At that time MLA Shankar Roy said that he would pay off the bank loan within a few days but the loan is existing till the date. The tea wokers understood that it was a hypocracy. The workers said that there are about four hundred (400) workers associated with this garden. They are all dependable for their family management on the garden. The way tea leaves are being cut down, their income is slowly going towards crisis. If their basic demands are not given immediate compensation, they will embark on a larger movement. Angry workers blocked the Vaishnabpur Sabroom road this morning by stopping the construction work of Eklavya School demanding justice for their great loss.
