Agartala: Nov 26: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) was organized the 6th general conference at Khumulwng, Tripura from the 24 to 26 November.
The programme was hosted by Tripura Students’ Union (TSF) and it was informed during a press conference in Agartala on Saturday by Samuel B Jyrwa, chairman, NESO in presence of Sinam Prakash Singh, secretary general, NESO, Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya, chief advisor, and other newly nominate office bearers of the biggest union of student’s organization of the region.
During the general conference discussion were held on the issue of the effects of illegal immigration from Bangladesh which is not only changing the demography of the region but also a threat to the nation as fundamentalists are using the region for pushing their members and using it as corridor.Other issues discussed are scenario of education in different states of North-East and employment and economic development in North-East.
On these issues the House unanimously passed and adopted that the issue of illegal infiltration of foreigners has been and is still a very serious threat to the identity and security of the indigenous peoples of the region and the central and concern state government need to prioritise the border fencing work with Banglasesh and complete it on a war footing.
On Education in different States of the region NESO is of the opinion that the present system is predominantly of the formal form of education, and the need of the hour is to introduce more job-oriented courses, vocational institutes beside education should be location specific and the curriculum should include the traditional values like culture, history, geography etc.
NESO also demanded for setting up of more professional and technical institutes in all states of North Eastern States.On employment and economic development in North-East, NESO strongly urge the Government of India to make North-East a special employment zone, set up regional placement or employment exchange in the North-East with its networking covering the whole of the North-East.
They viewed that recruitment of local youth in central government establishment be reviewed and in that there should be cent per cent employment in which ever state such an establishment is set up, i.e.; not only in Grade III and IV but also maximum absorption in Grades I and II.
NESO also demanded that North East should be treated as special economic zone beside Special Constitutional Safeguard for Tripura.The House also unanimously adopted a resolution to demand for a Special Constitutional safeguard for Tripura with vast federal authority inorder to protect and uplift their identity, culture with rights over land and natural resources of the indigenous people of Tripura.
Apart from these issues the NESO also reiterate its stand on many important issues like implementation of inner line permit (ILP), conduct NRC in all the other remaining states of North-East with a specific cut off year according to the unique situation of that particular state.
The union of students organization viewed that as the published updated NRC of Assam is not fully correct, there should be reexamination of the whole process beside repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 and impunitive legislation like AFSPA 1958.
They also urged for special constitutional status with rights over land and natural resources, separate time zone for NE, declare flood and erosion of NE as a National Problem, settling of inter-state boundary nclusion of the Kok Borok, Khasi and Garo language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
