Agartala: Nov 25: A two-day regional workshop initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Central Government has started from Friday at a private hotel in the capital. The workshop will discuss various schemes and legislations of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Central Government.
The workshop was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik, Minister Bhagwan Chandra Das, Minister Santana Chakma, Minister Ram Prasad Pal, State Chief Secretary JK Sinha and others were also present. Speaking at the workshop, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that two old age homes are running under the state government. There are also several other old age homes run by different organizations. The board has been formed to ensure the rights of third gender citizens.
Tripura Aids Control Society funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is working to create awareness among people about the evils of drugs. The health department is working to rehabilitate drug addicts. The Chief Minister also highlighted the success of various projects given by the Central Government. On the other hand, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik said in an interview that although the states of the North-Eastern region are small, the Prime Minister respects these states. A vivid example of this is the regional workshop of this day. This is the first time a two-day regional workshop is being held in Tripura state. He expressed hope that this two-day workshop will be fruitful.
Besides, he expressed hope that more and more workshops of various departments of the central government will be held in the state in the future. Talking about making a drug free Tripura, the Union Minister of State said that the Ministry of Social Justice, Justice and Empowerment has declared 372 districts of the country as drug free districts. Work is going on to take everyone together and bring the youth out of the grip of addiction. Union State Minister Pratima Bhowmik also said that 7 districts out of 8 districts of Tripura state are among the 372 districts of drug free country. Representatives from 16 states of the country participated in the workshop. Representatives from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur participated in the workshop.
