Agartala, Nov 25: Political violence continues in Tripura, where the assembly election is scheduled in February next year. On Friday there have been attacks on opposition Congress reportedly at two places Amtali in West Tripura district, Golaghati in Sepahijala district and Shantirbazar under South Tripura district as the party has been organizing Bharat Jordo, Tripura Bachao rally which was launched a week back.
Congress campaigning vehicles were broken and in total 15 supporters who took part in the programme were injured. A Congress delegation later met the IG law and order in the police headquarters in Agartala to raise their concerns.
Later speaking to reporters former MLA and Congress senior leader Asish Kumar Saha allegedly that the ruling BJP goons are behind the attacks.
He raised that the Congress programmes are taking place with prior police permissions and which was suppose to provide them security but unfortunately the attacks are taking place in front of the police who are mere silent spectators. Saha also allegedly that the state Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha who is also the Home Minister has totally failed to maintain law and order in the state. He threatened that if the police continue to act in this manner then they will have to adopt other methods to continue their political activities.
Meantime, reacting to the opposition allegations of increasing political violence in the state CM Saha said that political violence has been a cultural which has been continuing here since last more than four decades and during the 25 years Left regime and five years Congress-TUJS and it cannot change overnight though the government is committed to maintaining peace and hopefully soon this culture will change in Tripura. He said that there is no room for violence and appealed to all those involved in violence to stop it. Saha claimed that police has been given free hand and is taking action against the perpetrators.
