Nongpoh, November 25: The Assam Petroleum Mazdoor has stated to stop the supply of petroleum and diesel to Meghalaya after tension erupted in the state soon after the dead of five people of Mukhro village in West Jaintia Hills on the 22 November, today the Ri Bhoi District Police took the initiative to deploy escort team for oil tanker from Jorabat to different part of Meghalaya.
However, witnessing the shortage of petroleum and diesel supplies in the state and people rushed them to refill their tanky, on Friday Police Department of Meghalaya has taken the initiative to deploy security to the oil tankers that are on their way from Jorabat Assam to Meghalaya. It may be mentioned that, Assam Petroleum Mazdoor, has expressed fears to ply to different parts of Meghalaya to supply petroleum and diesel as they feared stray incidents while plying through the National Highway in Meghalaya, in which letter demanding security while plying into Meghalaya has been also made by the Association.
Speaking to the media, Sanchet Surekha, Joint Secretary of Petroleum Dealers Association, said that, the stoppage of supplying of Petrol and diesel by Assam Petroleum Mazdoor is that in Meghalaya series of agitation is going on due to the Assam Firing that killed innocent people at Mukhro West Jaintia Hills District, therefore drivers has been fearing if untoward incidents may occured in the highway.
He also said that, that after Meghalaya Police Department has agreed to deploy security the Association has started to supply oil to Meghalaya in which over 40 oil tankers will enter Meghalaya for oil supply, adding that, the association has expressed gratitude to the police and the state government of Meghalaya.
