Agartala, Nov 25: Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha along with DGP Tripura Police Amitabh Ranjan on Friday flagged off four patrolling vehicles for keeping surveillance in the national highway between Agartala and Churaibari covering the state’s four districts – North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai and Khowai.
The CM appreciate the initiative of the state police and expressed that this will not only reduce accidents in the route and save previous lives and property but also help in keeping vigil and stopping movement of drugs in and out of the state. These vehicles equipped with speedometer, breathalyser and EPOS challan delivery machines shall help in reducing rash driving as there shall be some fear among the lawbreakers due to the movement of these highway patrolling vehicles round the clock.
Two months ago same number of highway patrolling vehicles was flagged off by the Chief Minister who today claimed that they have started giving results as data reveals that road accidents in Tripura in the recent past have decreased by six percent despite 30 percent increase in the number of vehicles. Saha appreciate the role of the traffic police and its improved traffic management using the latest technology and devices including CCTV cameras.
However, he expressed his concern over loss of precious lives especially of youths largely due to reckless driving often under the influence of liquor and drugs.
