Agartala: Nov 05: Atleast eight Myanmar Rohingya refugees who entered from Banglasesh have been arrested from the Agartala rail station on Saturday. The arrested consist of two male, three female and three children. They were waiting to board a train to leave for New Delhi but before that came in the scan of plain cloth police personnel who on suspicion enquired about their identities and residence during which they confessed that they are Rohingyas.
Police said that after fleeing their refugee camp in Bangladesh Cox Bazaar and where they were staying, they had crossed the border without any valid documents and entered Indian territory with the help of an agent who had promised them work in the India capital city.
Police though did not find valid passports but they possessed United Nations High Commissioner Refugees issued cards which describe them as forcibly displaced Myanmar national and persons of concern to UNHCR.A case under the Passport Act has been registered against them were later they forwarded to the court with a plea for judicial custody.
Arrest of large number of Myanmar Rohingya refugees in Tripura, which is surrounded by Bangladesh from three sides with long 856 Km border, indicates that it used by them as a transit route to reach other parts of India.
